WHISKEY OF THE MONTH –
Midleton Very Rare 2024
Midleton Very Rare 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of this prestigious Irish whiskey series, blending single pot still and single grain whiskeys aged 12 to 33 years in first-fill and refill American oak barrels. Bottled at 40% ABV, it offers a rich aroma of vanilla, floral notes, ripe apple, and warming spices. The palate is silky and complex, featuring tropical fruits, crème brûlée, toffee apple, and honeycomb, balanced with pot still spice and charred oak. A lingering finish showcases fruit and oak in perfect harmony.

WHISKEY PAIRING PLAYLISTS
We'll be keeping these playlists restricted to 10 songs, to get the point across. But Spotify's algorithms are so good these days, there's nothing stopping you from applying radio to the playlist and seeing where it takes you.

Our first round-up brings us to a place of contemplation. This is not a playlist made for a big gathering or singalong belters. But a quiet drink after dark, maybe it's on the porch, in the rocking chair, or on your favourite park bench. One thing is for sure - you'll need a stiff drink and some good speakers.
Our first track is an old honky-tonker and should probably be enjoyed first to ease into what will become a more melodramatic soundscape. Drift through some classic Pogues and country before hitting a Dylan B-side (you'll still recognise it). Willy takes us through a Vedder cover, then into some more contemporary country and then a hit of soul, before we some real soul searchers to finish. I was suprised to finish with the Fab Four, but it just worked as a closer. Maybe the whiskey is empty at this point, maybe you're all thinked out.
The playlist was designed to spark thought, some internal soul-searching, and a good rhythm and tempo for sipping on something easy.
